25 ways to raise your vibrations this winter and why it’s important

Do you notice that during the winter months it can be easy to let your vibrations lower? Do you feel heavier and less motivated? It’s not the case for everyone but I certainly feel that I need to be more consciously and actively finding ways to raise my vibrations every day.

It’s because it’s darker and colder, you may be inside more, less active, eating more and heavier food, watching tv and spending more time looking at computer screens, and that will all affect your moods and thoughts. 

It can be hard to just change your thoughts and mood because you want to. As soon as you take measures to raise your vibrations though, your thoughts and experience of life immediately change!

What does it mean to have high or low vibrations?

We all vibrate energetically at a particular frequency. The lower the frequency, the denser your energy. What you sometimes forget is that this directly affects your experience of life. Problems seem heavier too. You may experience heavier emotions, darker thoughts or lack of clarity, and more pain and discomfort in your physical body. It takes more energy and effort to get things done. There is less flow in your body and in life. This can lead to dis-ease.

The higher the frequency at which you vibrate energetically, the lighter you feel in your physical, emotional, and mental bodies. You have a sense of ease and flow in your body and your life. Challenges and emotions are dealt with easily. You manifest what you want almost as soon as you dream it. You feel more love and compassion, power, clarity, peace, and joy. Your energy is literally full of light!

Why is it important to raise your vibrations?

As Albert Einstein once said:

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

So when you raise your vibrations you are literally emanating and attracting health, love, compassion, positivity, clarity, abundance, joy and so on. You will attract situations and people that are vibrating at that same high level as you. And similarly, you’ll attract lower vibrational people and situations when you lower your vibrations.

That gives me plenty of motivation! How about you? In fact, I would say that it is my number one priority and my conscious life path now to be making choices that consistently raise my vibrations.

Can you feel it? Take responsibility for your vibrational frequency.

We all have access to feeling our energy and the changes in our vibrations. I invite you from now on though to become really conscious of it, and especially of how your state of vibrational frequency is affecting you and others.

Tune in to your body, thoughts and emotions regularly during the day to see how you are feeling. Notice what is happening in your life, how people are acting, what situations are coming up and how you are responding to them. This is reflecting back to you something important about your own vibrations.

Once you are aware of it, you can take action to raise your vibrations for positive impact.

25 easy ways to consciously raise your vibrations

Ok, so here are a bunch of ways to consciously raise your vibrations this winter.

  1. Breathe deeply – From simple abdominal breathing to complex pranayama techniques, breathing is one of the most effective ways to let go of tension, get into your body and get your energy flowing again. It can be a powerful way to activate your energy body and access higher states of consciousness.
  2. Dance – Try starting your day by dancing for 15 minutes to your favourite uplifting tunes, or find yourself a Five Rhythms tribe locally, and make intuitive, free expression through your body a regular practice.
  3. Spend time in nature – It’s a no-brainer. Get your body saturated in the abundant negative ions in nature so that you feel alive and vibrant. Guaranteed effect!
  4. Get plenty of healing sleep and rest – Make it a priority for your body to regenerate through deep healing sleep and periods of conscious rest.
  5. Eat unprocessed, fresh, organic food, slowly and with gratitude – All food vibrates too. So your choice of food, where and how it is produced, as well as how you prepare and eat it, is going to have a direct impact on your vibrations.
  6. Drink lots of pure water – There is loads of evidence now showing how water crystals change depending how it is treated and the container you put it in. A flower of life bottle or even your own positive thoughts can make a difference.
  7. Practice gratitude – Instant gratification from a very different source than shopping or eating!! Make it a daily practice before bed to count your blessings and realise how lucky you are to have so much abundance and love in your life.
  8. Practice acts of kindness – It brings such a warm feeling to your heart to offer spontaneous compliments or little acts of kind service to total strangers and to loved ones alike.
  9. Laugh out loud – A good old belly laugh triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies.
  10. Love – Ok, this is the fast food for high vibrations. Nothing is more impactful on our system than the vibration of love. Even just imagining someone or something you love will raise your vibrations. This is not so much about being in love, but more about being love, thus in a state of love.
  11. Sing and sound – Whether it’s hollering in the car, howling under the full moon, blazing out the Bohemian Rhapsody under the shower, or singing a lullaby to your baby (or yourself), activating your voice consciously is like super food! Chanting OM puts you in direct vibration with the Universe.
  12. Let go – Release locked up tension and energy by actively letting go of attachment, fear, resistance, resentment and need to control. Allow feelings to be expressed consciously as they come up so that emotions don’t get locked up inside. Feel your fear and do it anyway. Trust your intuition and step forward into the unknown.
  13. Dream – Another superfood for your body. Spend time day dreaming. Imagine it in full colour, feel it in your body, taste it, smell it, hear it. Literally dream your life and the world you most desire into being.
  14. Be you – Be honest and authentically you. Do what you love to do. Be a full and unique expression of you in every moment. This is true high vibration existence!!
  15. Receive an energy healing – Energy healing and energetic body work, including conscious massage, is very powerful to help raise your vibrations. You just need to relax and open yourself to the flow of energy.
  16. Meditation  – The key thing is to bring yourself into the present moment, relaxing into what is, in order to access deeper being and knowing. This instantly brings you into higher vibrations.
  17. Practice Yoga, Tai Chi or Qi Gong – All of these practices use breath and movement to consciously clear the energy channels – essential to allow energy to flow freely again, bringing and maintaining ease, clarity and vitality.
  18. Hugs – The real, body-embracing, long, loving type of hugs, are scientifically proven to stimulate oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine, balance the nervous system, enhance the immune system, reduce heart rate and reduce worry of mortality. Let’s get hugging!
  19. Extended sensual and sexual pleasure – This is what Tantra is all about. It’s not about having great sex really, it’s about accessing and extending high vibrational pleasure states in life in order to heal and access higher states of consciousness. It is about living in an orgasmic state, vibrantly alive and joyful.
  20. Spend time with animals – Pure, grounded, and often, enlightened beings. There’s no analysis of whether their parents treated them right or blaming the government for all the woes of the world. Animals are present moment high vibrators.
  21. Play with children – Babies and children are naturally high vibrational. Spending time playing with them will help you activate your childlike joy, freedom and awe and wonder of the world too.
  22. Spend time with inspiring, uplifting people  – As Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend most time with.” Find your tribe and spend time with people who are actively being positive, living on purpose and making the world a better place. Read inspiring books and watch great TED talks.
  23. Be creative with your hands  – Your hands are energetically connected to your heart. Write, paint or make something with your hands and your heart.
  24. Clear your space of negative and artificial energy – Turn off all devices and get away from computer screens as much as possible. Use crystals or essential oils to clear the energy in your home. Use natural cleaning products. Turn off wifi and phones when you sleep.
  25. Open yourself to Universal energy – Simply open up and tune in to the energy of the Universe for healing and guidance. Ask for guidance from your Spirit guides. Believe that everything is happening FOR you and know that you are being supported and guided all the time.

Fall in Love with your Longing

Longing is what drives you forward. It gives you courage. It fuels your passion. It ensures your innovation and evolution.

Often, however, we confuse it with a story of not having and get lost in the pain and suffering of ‘lack’. We seek quick fixes and ways to numb it out. We project and blame others for not meeting the need of this longing. We rant and rage. We grasp and fall victim.

Yet deep down this exquisite throbbing is a divine blessing, where pain and pleasure and power combine to ignite your life-force energy.

Longing pulls you out of mundane, mediocre existence. It inspires possibility and fuels greatness.

Longing makes you curious. It drives you to seek.

This longing yearns to be felt; felt by you.

What is this longing? Go deeper. And deeper again. Keep asking and go as deep as you can go to feel the true longing in your heart, in your body, in your soul.

Feel the energy, feel the emptiness, without doing anything about it, to fulfil it or numb it out.

Completely surrender, and keep surrendering to the ache of this longing.

Ride the wave of its force and fall in love with its pulse.

Get to know your longing intimately.

Your longing, when it is fully embraced, will set you free!

Sunrise meditation (Navigating the Shadow – part 2)

In my last post I wrote about navigating the shadow, and this beautiful playful dance between light and dark in ourselves. In this post I want to share a nice simple practice to relax and to let go in those moments that feel sticky or heavy, and to allow yourself fill up with the light again.

Talking to a very special mentor of mine this week, she described so eloquently the ebb and flow between our light and shadow parts, just like day and night. They are such integral parts of who we are. They come and go with the natural flow of life. There are times when we are consumed in the dark night of the shadow and other times filled with bright light. Just like day and night, we cannot and do not need to control them. Every day the sun rises to flood the landscape with its rays of light. Every night the sun sets and the darkness falls. Nothing can hold back this natural cycle.

So it is ok and totally normal to find ourselves going through times where we are in deeper conversation with our shadow, just as it is to sit wide awake on a dark night. In fact, these can be very profound, revealing and intimate moments with ourselves, when we are not in resistance to them and we can trust that the light will naturally reappear again, just as the sun is sure to rise the next morning.

You might like to try this simple exercise when you have a moment to just close your eyes, even for just one minute. Ideally you can practice it for real outside in nature at sunrise, but you can do it by just closing your eyes and using your imagination, perhaps in the morning before you start the day, or at any moment that it feels right to allow more light in to your being.

  • Imagine yourself sitting, standing or lying outside, perhaps in nature where you feel safe and comfortable. It is early morning before sunrise. You are turned to face East, with a clear view in front of you of the horizon. Maybe it’s a lake and mountain tops, trees and grassy fields, the open sea, the desert or the rooftops of the city.
  • You settle in your body and get still. Tune-in to your body sensations as you relax more and more. Feel yourself letting go of all holding and tension. Notice the free-flowing rhythm of your breath.
  • Gradually the sun starts to rise over the horizon. Imagine the light starting to flood over the landscape. The sky, your body and all that is around you is gradually being lit up. Imagine the colours emerging. Nothing can stop it or slow it down – that light is coming no matter what. It is like a warm glow. Relax as you feel the warmth touch different parts of your body and notice the changing light and colours in your eyes.
  • Feel the light of the sun filling you up, healing, awakening and re-energising every cell in your body. Fully surrender your mind and body to this flood of light and feel your own light starting to react and radiate outward in reflection. How does it feel?
  • As you let go completely, acknowledge that you do not have to do or be or achieve anything more to receive this light or to be a source of radiant light. This is what you already are.
  • When you feel complete, give gratitude to this amazing sun, source of life and light.  As you move out of this practice into the rest of your day, let the light glow out through you all of your being, through your eyes, your smile, your heart and your whole body, so that simply being in your presence can light up all those around you.

The quickest way to happy

What is the quickest way to leading a fulfilling, happy life?

Do something that makes you happy every day. And ideally do it more than anything else!

I’m writing from the Val d’Hérens in the Swiss Alps where I rented a little chalet for myself for 4 days. What a treat. This is my total bliss!

As you may know, I schedule in a long weekend once a month to retreat and do something that nourishes me and delights me (and my soul). It is my total dream to have a chalet in the mountains. Until that happens I save my money and I dedicate it to living the dream at least once in a while!

This weekend, from the most magnificent viewpoint, in the most delightful chalet, I have spent hours in meditation, walking in nature, eating healthy food, reading great books, creating my new programme, chanting, dancing and sleeping.

Most importantly, I have spent time being quiet and listening – listening to my deep inner voice and wisdom. This has led to some spontaneous healing, awakening and self-empowerment rituals.

There are such powerful transformational energies affecting us right now. It is a beautiful opportunity to listen carefully, hold loving space for ourselves and dare to follow the inner voice.

I used to complain a lot about life and moan about work, until I realised that I am entirely responsible for my own life, wellness and happiness. I create it.

So what is it that delights you and makes you bubble with joy?

Commit to doing one thing every day that lights you up and fills you up inside!

7 tips for riding the wave of transformation

Wow! There are such powerful energies moving and affecting us right now. Are you feeling it? It is quite extraordinary. It may be shaking things up for you.

In short periods of time you might be experiencing a whole suite of emotions. You may be experiencing conflict and negativity within or around you. You may be physically tired and anxious or bursting with energy and creative flow. You may be riding this wave in style and having an absolute blast! Woohooo!

Our bodies and minds are going through big transformations. Sometimes this can be uncomfortable. But know that it is all positive in the bigger scheme of things and this shift in consciousness is ultimately guiding you toward what your heart desires the most.

Here are some practical suggestions for riding the wave of transformation and enjoying the magic.

  1. Relax, Surrender and Open
    This is an opportunity to let go of old ways of thinking, old patterns and strategies that no longer serve you. Rather than resist and fight to hold on, relax, surrender and open to go with the flow. Allow the magic to unfold. The unknown and new can be scary but dare to trust what is shifting and trust that you will know what to do. Don’t rush or push for things to happen faster. Go at your own pace.
  2. Listen
    Be quiet. Spend time in nature. Spend time in silence and in meditation. Spend time resting and listening. Be with your Self. Be with your Soul. To evolve into the new we need to get comfortable in not knowing. As we open our minds and bodies as channels of energy we can allow wisdom and new knowing to emerge.
  3. Follow your heart
    Follow your heart, your intuition, your joy through inspired action. This can take courage but this is the best GPS you’ll ever have and it is always guiding you through the maze. No worries if it feels like you take a wrong direction, tune-in and it will help you course-correct.
  4. Express yourself
    Find channels to express what is moving for you and through you, without projecting onto others. Express your truth in the now moment. Hold no attachment to the result. Just enjoy the expression itself, whether creating a new project or business partnership, or how you parent. It may be through painting or writing or food or voice. It may be through your body in sport, dance or sexuality. Be an expression of this energy so that you can explore its purpose.
  5. Manifest your dreams
    As you follow this energy you will start to truly enjoy an expanded life and manifest your dreams in this new reality. Try to focus the energy on one thing at a time, rather than be leaky and dispersed.
  6. Be in community
    Surround yourself regularly with uplifting, heart-centred, awake people, the people that listen and hold space for whatever is moving, those who are moving toward their dreams and encourage you to follow your dreams. Be in circle and sacred space with others so that you don’t feel you have to carry the torch alone but continue to raise your vibrations together.
  7. Practice gratitude and giving back
    Never take life for granted or consider that life owes you anything. As you evolve and grow through the ups and downs, practice gratitude every day and enjoy giving back in creative ways. Gratitude helps us feel good and inspires us to do good. Be the light and torch bearer for others. Sprinkle angel-dust as you go!

Letting go to let love flow

As I let go of what I think it means to love, I am learning what it actually means to love, unconditionally, myself and others. As I let go, I allow myself to be touched by grace.

In my effort to know and understand love, to give and receive, to be loveable and feel worthy of love, I have found myself often not knowing or understanding, and not always truly loving or letting it in. When I let go of the effort, I open in humility to how life and love can flow effortlessly.

To love another unconditionally means to allow them to be and to show up in their own way, as themselves, and as best they can in the now moment. To see them with fascination, awe and wonder, and as their own sovereign being. To delight in their joy and excitement and dreams. To hold their highest light for them, even when they cannot feel or see it in themselves or are acting unconsciously out of fear. To hold them and soothe their wounds as they regather their strength, courage and wisdom.

It is to love without needing anything in return.

It is to be ok with those parts of them that irritate me, that disappoint me, or that I simply don’t like and to see beyond that. It is not to accept what is not right for me and not an act of love, but to speak my truth and lovingly call them to account and back into their power and consciousness, just as I call myself to account when out of line with my truth.

It is not thinking I know best or better than them for them, but trusting that they are exactly where they need to be, as am I. It is not limiting their potential based on past experience but allowing me and them to show up anew in this now moment. It is not thinking I know how I must be loved but rather to allow them to love me in the way they can, in the way that feels true, authentic and free to them. And to be ok even when they are unable or unwilling to love me back. This does not make me unloveable or unworthy of love, nor them.

To love ourselves unconditionally is exactly the same.

We may not like feeling sad, angry, lonely, jealous or bitter. We may not like feeling anxious, fearful, weak, confused or out of control. We may know very well that they are fictions of the mind. We may even have all the words and tools to transform those feelings. We may feel that we have done all the yoga and meditation and personal development to know better than this. But can we be ok with where we are at just now? Can we sit with it, take ownership of it, without throwing it out unconsciously at another? Can we say with kindness to ourselves, “yes I know this too will pass but right now this is where I’m at and that’s ok”.

Life is messy. To be human is to be messy.

  • Can you be ok with the messiness sometimes, in you and in others?
  • Can you be ok with not knowing and not having the answers yet?
  • Can you be ok with being the vulnerable child rather than the wise old sage at times?

Because right here where you are right now, perhaps there is something beautiful, a little gem ready to be discovered.

When we let go of the resistance, the ‘should’, the ‘must’, the ‘ought to be’ and the ‘what if’, what is it that remains? …….. just what is.

In letting go of the struggle we learn humility and grace. We learn compassion and empathy. In our vulnerability we open to asking for help, letting in and receiving.

Through these softened eyes and heart we may see and feel anew. Humbled by life’s greatness, we may notice…..the abundance of love available all around; the depth of someone’s ability to love and care for us, and the beauty of their soul; the unspoken pain and suffering and longing in another; all the efforts someone is making in their own way to be the best person they can; the strength and greatness of our own spirit; the vibrant aliveness and beauty of nature; the ways in which the universe supports and guides us…..

As we let go of the trying, the resistance and the control, we open ourselves to be touched by Grace.

So although you may not know what to do or say or feel or even think at some point; although you may not be feeling good about what you have done or said; although there may be so much pain, unfairness and inequality in the world right now, can you let go for just a moment, let go of needing to understand, to have any answers or anything to offer in assistance, and trust that all is ok?

Everything that you have done, said and thought has its own perfection.

I am ok. They are ok. There is, somehow, right now, a perfection to what is.

Ask to be held there, by a loved one, a friend, a therapist, or by the earth / Gaia / God / your spirit guides or ancestors. Soften into being.

Let it go for now. Open up to letting in. Open up to the unknown.

Let this moment grace you and speak to you and love you, in whatever way it will.

All is well. All is as it is.
