25 ways to raise your vibrations this winter and why it’s important

Do you notice that during the winter months it can be easy to let your vibrations lower? Do you feel heavier and less motivated? It’s not the case for everyone but I certainly feel that I need to be more consciously and actively finding ways to raise my vibrations every day.

It’s because it’s darker and colder, you may be inside more, less active, eating more and heavier food, watching tv and spending more time looking at computer screens, and that will all affect your moods and thoughts. 

It can be hard to just change your thoughts and mood because you want to. As soon as you take measures to raise your vibrations though, your thoughts and experience of life immediately change!

What does it mean to have high or low vibrations?

We all vibrate energetically at a particular frequency. The lower the frequency, the denser your energy. What you sometimes forget is that this directly affects your experience of life. Problems seem heavier too. You may experience heavier emotions, darker thoughts or lack of clarity, and more pain and discomfort in your physical body. It takes more energy and effort to get things done. There is less flow in your body and in life. This can lead to dis-ease.

The higher the frequency at which you vibrate energetically, the lighter you feel in your physical, emotional, and mental bodies. You have a sense of ease and flow in your body and your life. Challenges and emotions are dealt with easily. You manifest what you want almost as soon as you dream it. You feel more love and compassion, power, clarity, peace, and joy. Your energy is literally full of light!

Why is it important to raise your vibrations?

As Albert Einstein once said:

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

So when you raise your vibrations you are literally emanating and attracting health, love, compassion, positivity, clarity, abundance, joy and so on. You will attract situations and people that are vibrating at that same high level as you. And similarly, you’ll attract lower vibrational people and situations when you lower your vibrations.

That gives me plenty of motivation! How about you? In fact, I would say that it is my number one priority and my conscious life path now to be making choices that consistently raise my vibrations.

Can you feel it? Take responsibility for your vibrational frequency.

We all have access to feeling our energy and the changes in our vibrations. I invite you from now on though to become really conscious of it, and especially of how your state of vibrational frequency is affecting you and others.

Tune in to your body, thoughts and emotions regularly during the day to see how you are feeling. Notice what is happening in your life, how people are acting, what situations are coming up and how you are responding to them. This is reflecting back to you something important about your own vibrations.

Once you are aware of it, you can take action to raise your vibrations for positive impact.

25 easy ways to consciously raise your vibrations

Ok, so here are a bunch of ways to consciously raise your vibrations this winter.

  1. Breathe deeply – From simple abdominal breathing to complex pranayama techniques, breathing is one of the most effective ways to let go of tension, get into your body and get your energy flowing again. It can be a powerful way to activate your energy body and access higher states of consciousness.
  2. Dance – Try starting your day by dancing for 15 minutes to your favourite uplifting tunes, or find yourself a Five Rhythms tribe locally, and make intuitive, free expression through your body a regular practice.
  3. Spend time in nature – It’s a no-brainer. Get your body saturated in the abundant negative ions in nature so that you feel alive and vibrant. Guaranteed effect!
  4. Get plenty of healing sleep and rest – Make it a priority for your body to regenerate through deep healing sleep and periods of conscious rest.
  5. Eat unprocessed, fresh, organic food, slowly and with gratitude – All food vibrates too. So your choice of food, where and how it is produced, as well as how you prepare and eat it, is going to have a direct impact on your vibrations.
  6. Drink lots of pure water – There is loads of evidence now showing how water crystals change depending how it is treated and the container you put it in. A flower of life bottle or even your own positive thoughts can make a difference.
  7. Practice gratitude – Instant gratification from a very different source than shopping or eating!! Make it a daily practice before bed to count your blessings and realise how lucky you are to have so much abundance and love in your life.
  8. Practice acts of kindness – It brings such a warm feeling to your heart to offer spontaneous compliments or little acts of kind service to total strangers and to loved ones alike.
  9. Laugh out loud – A good old belly laugh triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies.
  10. Love – Ok, this is the fast food for high vibrations. Nothing is more impactful on our system than the vibration of love. Even just imagining someone or something you love will raise your vibrations. This is not so much about being in love, but more about being love, thus in a state of love.
  11. Sing and sound – Whether it’s hollering in the car, howling under the full moon, blazing out the Bohemian Rhapsody under the shower, or singing a lullaby to your baby (or yourself), activating your voice consciously is like super food! Chanting OM puts you in direct vibration with the Universe.
  12. Let go – Release locked up tension and energy by actively letting go of attachment, fear, resistance, resentment and need to control. Allow feelings to be expressed consciously as they come up so that emotions don’t get locked up inside. Feel your fear and do it anyway. Trust your intuition and step forward into the unknown.
  13. Dream – Another superfood for your body. Spend time day dreaming. Imagine it in full colour, feel it in your body, taste it, smell it, hear it. Literally dream your life and the world you most desire into being.
  14. Be you – Be honest and authentically you. Do what you love to do. Be a full and unique expression of you in every moment. This is true high vibration existence!!
  15. Receive an energy healing – Energy healing and energetic body work, including conscious massage, is very powerful to help raise your vibrations. You just need to relax and open yourself to the flow of energy.
  16. Meditation  – The key thing is to bring yourself into the present moment, relaxing into what is, in order to access deeper being and knowing. This instantly brings you into higher vibrations.
  17. Practice Yoga, Tai Chi or Qi Gong – All of these practices use breath and movement to consciously clear the energy channels – essential to allow energy to flow freely again, bringing and maintaining ease, clarity and vitality.
  18. Hugs – The real, body-embracing, long, loving type of hugs, are scientifically proven to stimulate oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine, balance the nervous system, enhance the immune system, reduce heart rate and reduce worry of mortality. Let’s get hugging!
  19. Extended sensual and sexual pleasure – This is what Tantra is all about. It’s not about having great sex really, it’s about accessing and extending high vibrational pleasure states in life in order to heal and access higher states of consciousness. It is about living in an orgasmic state, vibrantly alive and joyful.
  20. Spend time with animals – Pure, grounded, and often, enlightened beings. There’s no analysis of whether their parents treated them right or blaming the government for all the woes of the world. Animals are present moment high vibrators.
  21. Play with children – Babies and children are naturally high vibrational. Spending time playing with them will help you activate your childlike joy, freedom and awe and wonder of the world too.
  22. Spend time with inspiring, uplifting people  – As Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend most time with.” Find your tribe and spend time with people who are actively being positive, living on purpose and making the world a better place. Read inspiring books and watch great TED talks.
  23. Be creative with your hands  – Your hands are energetically connected to your heart. Write, paint or make something with your hands and your heart.
  24. Clear your space of negative and artificial energy – Turn off all devices and get away from computer screens as much as possible. Use crystals or essential oils to clear the energy in your home. Use natural cleaning products. Turn off wifi and phones when you sleep.
  25. Open yourself to Universal energy – Simply open up and tune in to the energy of the Universe for healing and guidance. Ask for guidance from your Spirit guides. Believe that everything is happening FOR you and know that you are being supported and guided all the time.

Get your sexy goddess on and…… clean your house!

Last week I bought a dress that I will probably never wear out in public. It’s so figure-hugging that no underwear is possible and nothing is left to the imagination. Mmmmmm! It’s pretty much transparent, depending on the light. It flatters my body shape and all my feminine curves. It’s super light, with big slits up both legs and lets me move with total freedom. It’s deliciously soft and sexy, and it feels soooooooo goooood!! That’s why I bought it.

I bought it for me. I bought it to feel fabulous. I bought it so that I can dance around my house feeling totally gorgeous. And doing that gives me so much uplifting energy. I love it.

Get your sexy goddess on to clean the house

So last weekend, after a long delicious Sunday morning lie-in, eating smooth dark-chocolate for breakfast and indulging in a spa-like sensorial shower, I slipped on that dress. Oh yes! Then I found an awesome dance playlist on Spotify, and ooooh……..I danced like crazy, it felt so good, so alive in my body, so sexy. Total freedom!!!

Then (now you might think this is totally mad)…… I got out the vacuum cleaner and I seriously sexily cleaned my house!!! Woohoo!! I had the most enjoyable house cleaning spree ever. Ahahaha!

This is my spiritual practice. This is my way of worshipping the goddess – both in terms of feeling absolutely amazing in my body and cleaning up my house, both the physical place and the energetic space and emotional space within and around me.

Spiritual practice does not need to be boring and serious and disciplined. It doesn’t have to happen on a mat in front of an altar. It can be ecstatic, exhilarating and ridiculously fun. It is about HOW you go about your daily life. In fact, when you dare to truly honour the goddess or shakti within (and this can be for the men too!!), then you have no choice but to follow some of her outrageously wild energies. She’ll take you for the ride of your life!!

So people, get your goddess on, get your sexy on, especially when you’ve got to clean the house or do the dishes or the laundry. Put on your sexiest outfit, or, even better, take it all off and just wear your birthday suit with some high heels!!! Yeehaa!

The no. 1 priority for being happy & 6 tips for conscious wanting

This is going to seem blatantly obvious when I say it but it’s just amazing how often most of us don’t make this the number 1 priority.

The number 1 priority for being happy is to WANT to be happy. 

The same goes for everything else:

The number 1 priority for love is to want to love and be loved.
The number 1 priority for being healthy is to want to be healthy.
The number 1 priority for __________ is to want to ____________. You fill in the blanks.

It is as simple as that, really!

You’ve gotta choose to be happy. And to do that you have to KNOW that you want it!
You do NOT need to know HOW to get or have or be it.

We love to be complex. (I know I do anyway!) If we want X then we think we need to focus on Y and Z. No, No, No. If you want X then you want X and you focus on X.

Let’s unpack it a little.

1. First, KNOW what you want. 
Now this does not mean needing to do an in-depth process of your strengths and personality traits and asking others how they see you, and considering your childhood passions, and what you’d do even if your weren’t paid for it  etc. etc. etc. It’s not about finding one life purpose.

I’m talking about a higher (or deeper) level than all that. Do you want to be happy? Do you want to be a great parent? Do you want to be healthy? Do you want to feel wild and free? Do you want to enjoy life?

2. Then, OWN what you want. 
The weird thing is that we might work out what we want but then we deny ourselves that want. We don’t think its realistic, or possible, or that we are worthy of it or perhaps even that it is “allowed”. Crikey!! Watch out for the almost instantaneous backlash of “Yes but…..” and “I can’t…..” type thoughts which result in you hiding away the want.

How about just enjoying the fact that you know what you want? Let it be a dream and enjoy daydreaming about it. When you are really connected to something you want, it will feel good as you think about it. If not, then it’s not really what you want and might just be conditioning and someone else’s want.

3. SAY OUT LOUD what you want.
Say it out loud so that you can hear yourself owning this want. Write it down, sing about it in the shower, paint it in colours, make a vision board of it. Dare to share it with someone who wants the best for you. This ain’t about holding you accountable to something. It’s so that you start creating new neural pathways, like new voices in your head that are actually positive and helpful. Make this want so obvious and present in your psyche that it can no longer get stashed under a whole bunch of other daily pressures, habits and to do lists.

4. LET THE UNIVERSE KNOW what you want.
The more energy you put into feeling and dreaming up this want, the more energy gets sent out into the universe to manifest that want. That will start the whole universe in motion to help you out. It’s like some magic fairy kingdom in the sky receiving in a new command, sending them into high alert to shift destiny and deliver you with opportunities where you can keep selecting and focusing on your want. Well, however it might happen, maybe you send it out on a heart’s prayer, with a wink of an eye, on a pebble in a stream or sending the written wish up in flames. And do it regularly. Be conscious of your want daily.

5. BELIEVE you can have what you want
Ok, so this is a biggie. We could get into in-depth psychology here but that’s not the objective. We are staying simple. So if you can, or rather if you DARE, just believe that you can have or be what you want. Now this is simple actually. Because you need to use the same process again. Priority no.1 for believing in what you want is to WANT to believe in what you want. Only you can do it for yourself. Believe also that you having what you want is a good thing for everyone and serves a higher purpose. What you desire in your heart is guiding you wisely to live our your purpose actually.

6. Notice I WANT becomes I AM 
At this point notice how it feels in your body, in your mind, in your heart. The very cool and funny thing is that just this knowing and choosing and dreaming up of what you want is more important than ever succeeding in having it. In fact, it’s most often the case that just knowing it and bringing it to clear conscious attention in the now, means you already have it or are experiencing it. It is already here, right now. Or perhaps it helps you suddenly get really clear on what you need to do or say to reach for what you want.

I want to be happy. Oh actually, I am happy because I choose to be happy right here and now.

Be content today with bringing into full consciousness to what it is that you really want, above and beyond everything else. Be content and gleeful in making the WANT a NUMBER 1 PRIORITY in your life and finding ways to anchor it in your mind and heart.

There is of course a fundamental next step, and that is to make every choice from now on based on that which you want. Perhaps we’ll explore that more another day. You may notice anyway, that this just naturally happens because you are clear on the want.

In my last post I shared some of the Remarkable Health Benefits of Yoga in the grass.

To help you out with some inspiration to get you off the mat and onto the grass this summer, I filmed a short video of my own practice. It’s a gentle yet dynamic flow sequence, combining a modified sun salutation and my warrior goddess dance. It’s just 7 minutes long and includes some of my favourite music by the magnificent Peruquois.

Do you know your WHY?

I hear it all the time that people are not yet clear on their purpose. They are stuck in focusing on the WHAT and the HOW and the WHEN!

I believe that not knowing your WHY is a key factor leading to boredom, anxiety, depression, stress and burn-out. It can make our Chi or Prana, life-force energy, stagnate. In shamanic terms we can call it ‘soul loss’.

This is my own personal experience. Back in 2009-2010 I was fast burning-out, suffering anaemia and chronic fatigue, and struggling to pick myself up. I knew I needed to rekindle the fire of passion within me. I needed to find my WHY!

We do not need to know “how” or “where”, but there is one question that we should all ask whenever we start anything: “What am I doing this for?” Paolo Coelho, The Valkyries

If you don’t know WHY you are doing something, it’s pretty hard to keep motivated and enthusiastic about it, and its all too easy to go off track (way off track over time), and follow old conditioning or other people’s desires (those who do know their WHY).

  • WHY do you do the job you do?
  • WHY are you passionate about your sport / your pet / …….?
  • WHY do you eat the way you do?
  • WHY are you in the relationship you are in?
  • WHY do you want to have a daily yoga or meditation practice?
  • WHY do you think the way you do about……?
  • WHY do you NOT make your dreams come true?

Are you doing it because it makes you feel great? Are you doing it for someone else? Because it seems to be the right thing to do? Because it just happened like that? Because you are actually afraid of your own happiness, light and power? Maybe it felt right before but is it still right for you now?

If it is not nourishing you, WHY are you still doing it?

Perhaps it doesn’t need a radical change, to leave your family, change jobs and fly off to the Tropics! Perhaps it just needs a reflection and repositioning of the WHY!

In shamanic terms we talk about stalking awareness – going out on the ‘hunt’.

It is time to start STALKING your WHY!!!

So what is my big WHY? 

It is to support people to come home to their hearts and remember who they truly are, because I believe that when we remember and drop into our open hearts…..

  • we awaken, together;
  • we act out of love rather than fear, and love heals;
  • we free ourselves of conditioning and explore our limitless joy and potential;
  • we nourish our minds, bodies and souls, and remember vibrant wellness;
  • and we live joyfully on purpose, in service.

Resolutions for 2014? Are you for or against?

I am one of those people who unashamedly loves making resolutions, dreaming about possibilities and imagining the year ahead. Why?

Because of how it makes me FEEL!

I am filled with hope, inspired by possibility, and excited by limitless potential. As I dream, for just a moment, the fear and doubt don’t exist. The ‘how’ doesn’t matter. I am filled with happy hormones!

This is about focusing on what I feel, what I want to feel, and what my heart longs for. It’s like starting fresh, taking a new perspective on myself and my life, and daring to dream that all is possible when I am in my true power.

The New Year holds particular meaning for creating intention but really every day, every moment and every breath offers the same opportunity.

Focus on what you want to feel, not on how to get it

Last year, my mentor made me aware of Kevin Trudeau’s “Your Wish is Your Command” CD series. It highlighted for me the importance of (i) feeling good right now in order to channel positive energy and thoughts, (ii) focusing my efforts on what I want to have, feel or do as the most critical influencing factor in manifesting my dreams, and (iii) connecting to the idea or feeling of what I want as much as possible.

Based on an understanding that “we don’t know what we don’t know”, and that most indices are off our ‘radar screen’ or current awareness, it is pointless to overly focus on HOW to manifest our dreams. We simply don’t yet know what is possible or what opportunities will arise tomorrow. Over-planning and controlling, in fact, can result in limiting our potential.

I might put all my hope, for example, into a relationship (business or intimate) with one specific person simply because he is on my ‘radar screen’, he is in front of me and seems perfect. But in fact it would be better to focus on what I want to feel in a relationship since I may not yet even know the right person who may be just around the corner! I have no idea what experience I will have tomorrow that could alter my perspective.

Ok, so here goes for my heart’s longing….

In 2014 I long to experience more love, to laugh and have fun, to feel free, connected to others, supported, and vibrantly alive, to make a difference and to fearlessly follow my heart.  

Connecting to the heart

Last year I was struck by how quickly I could manifest certain dreams and desires when they were from the heart. Most often they came in a form that I could not have imagined myself. Through my practice and training with Christian Pankhurst in Heart Intelligence, I have also discovered just how challenging it is to unravel the layers of conditioning, ‘head-strong’ programming and defence mechanisms that I/we hold and to get clear on what we really want. It’s about getting rid of the habitual “I need to”, “I should”, “I have to”, and replacing them all with “I want to….”

Getting clear on your heart’s true longing often requires assistance from others who can feel into your truth as you express it (the bull shit monitor!). Your truth always feels ‘juicy’ and real. Again the key here is how it FEELS. Something moves or resonates within my body as I connect to my heart’s true longing. My eyes light up, my body relaxes, my heart opens and I instantly feel better. I feel emotional.

7 tips to meaningful resolutions 

So here are my tips on making resolutions that really come from the heart:

  1. Get into your body.  Free your body and mind of tension. Perhaps dancing, yoga, going for a run, stomping your feet or shaking the body, making sound or a massage can help. You may need to do something active first if your energy is high, and give yourself at least 15 minutes to move into your interior world.
  2. Now slow right down and relax, through slow movement and breathing, gradually moving to stillness, sitting in a chair or on the floor.
  3. Write down the answers to these questions on paper:
    1. What am I feeling in relation to my life right now? This might include what you are feeling physically, emotionally, mentally, energetically, and intuitively. Get present and be totally honest, even if you feel numb. Don’t get into any stories!
    2. What do I long to feel in my life in relation to: (i) My health?  (ii) My relationship(s)? (iii) My work?  (iv) ….?
    3. How do I want to show up in the world this year? How does this feel? What does it look like? (Tip: you can change this to this week or today or even this moment as a regular practice.)
  4. Tune-in regularly as you ask these questions to how you are feeling in your body. Try to drop down into your heart rather than searching for the answers in your head. Ask the question and wait, let the answer come to you as you feel into it.
  5. As you notice any doubts and fears sneaking in during or after this process, try saying the following: “Ok I acknowledge that fear and limiting belief but right now I choose not to believe it.”
  6. Keep these answers somewhere safe, perhaps in your ‘dream book’, and look at them regularly. Don’t worry for now about the ‘how’ – just keep focusing on these feelings and let yourself be totally immersed in how it looks and feels to follow your heart’s longing. Permit yourself to be content in the longing.
  7. Ask a close friend (emotionally intelligent ideally) to listen as you express your heart’s longing. Their role is to FEEL and share with you what moves for them as you express yourself. They must not judge or give advice or criticism. Their sole purpose is to give their spontaneous response in terms of what moves for them. To be heard expressing your heart’s desire can be very powerful!!!
